چکیده

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT We estimate the level of confusion of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropy measurements caused by extragalactic infrared sources. CMB anisotropy observations at high resolution and high frequencies are especially sensitive to this foreground. We have combined IRAS data on bright infrared galaxies with information about the Galaxy from the DIRBE and FIRAS instruments of COBE. Using the spectrum of the Milky Way as a template, we predict the microwave emission of the 5319 brightest infrared galaxies. We simulate skymaps of extragalactic infrared sources over the relevant range of frequencies (30-900 GHz) and instrument resolutions (10 ′ − 10 • Full Width Half Max). Analysis of the temperature anisotropy of these skymaps shows a level of extragalactic infrared foreground that is nearly consistent with previous estimates based on galaxy-evolution models. A reasonable observational window is still available for medium-and small-angular scale CMB anisotropy measurements. infrared galaxies – infrared sources: extragalactic – 3 –

Our ability to extract the maximal amount of information from future observations at gigahertz frequencies depends on our ability to separate the underlying cosmic microwave background (CMB) from galactic and extragalactic foregrounds. We review the separation problem and its formulation within Bayesian inference, give examples of specific solutions with particular choices of prior density, and...

Weak gravitational lensing from large-scale structure enhances and reduces the fluxes from extragalactic point sources with an r.m.s. amplitude of order 15%. In cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments, sources exceeding some flux threshold φc are removed, which means that lensing will modulate the brightness map of the remaining unresolved sources. Since this mean brightness is of order 1...

The Wavelength-Oriented Microwave Background Analysis Team (WOMBAT) is constructing microwave maps which will be more realistic than previous simulations. Our foreground models represent a considerable improvement: where spatial templates are available for a given foreground, we predict the flux and spectral index of that component at each place on the sky and estimate uncertainties. We will pr...
